Center for Autism and Related Disorders Opens Manhattan Treatment Center for Adults and Children with Autism

Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) today announced the opening of its new treatment center in Manhattan, N.Y. for adults and children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). CARD has over 25 centers worldwide and is known for leading the way in the successful treatment of autism, achieving measurable results for each client, which in some cases includes recovery. CARD provides a variety of services using the evidence-based principles of ABA to treat the delays and challenges commonly associated with ASD. ABA is the only scientifically validated treatment for ASD, and research shows that it is most effective when delivered early and at a high level of intensity. This will be the third CARD location in the state of New York, located at 14 E. 109th Street, Manhattan, N.Y. 10029.

Services include CARD integrated services for adults, center-based treatment, home-based services and supervision, parent training, and school shadowing. CARD integrated services is a day program for adults that utilizes decades of experience using the most effective treatment and curriculum to decrease problem behaviors and increase skill acquisition. The curriculum covers every component of adult life and can be adapted to any adult’s current repertoire with goals and objectives developed and ranked to meet the adult’s short-term and long-term goals. The program also offers hands-on practice for general and/or specific vocational skills for adults to prepare them for the workforce. Onsite internships are offered to adult clients as well as off-site internships through community partners.

Center-based services provide on-site one-to-one ABA treatment for individuals of all ages. Clients receive CARD’s cutting edge curriculum while receiving care from top quality ABA therapists and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) supervisors. Clients are also able to practice socialization skills by interfacing with peers and other adults at the center. There is added convenience because parents do not need to be present during sessions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), estimates that one in every 68 children in America is diagnosed with ASD, with one in 42 boys and one in 189 girls diagnosed. This is more than a 30 percent increase since the 2008 report. As the prevalence of ASD has increased, services for children with ASD have not always kept pace with demand. As a result, families affected by ASD may encounter challenges when trying to access quality treatment. The increase in autism diagnoses and the lack of resources available to families in many communities leave parents struggling to access the services that are crucial to their child’s development.
