Celebrated Names Join MHASP at 9th Annual Bell of Hope Award Dinner

PHILADELPHIA, May 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A panoply of notables including Mayor Michael Nutter, several legislators and other celebrated guests will join the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania (MHASP) to honor Mary Hurtig, who recently retired as MHASP's Director of Public Policy, at its ninth annual Bell of Hope Award Dinner on Thursday, May 15, 2008, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., at the Sheraton Society Hill, 2nd and Walnut streets, Philadelphia.

Besides Mayor Nutter and other distinguished speakers (mentioned below), celebrating with 2008 Bell of Hope Award recipient Mary Hurtig will be Philadelphia City Council Member Marian Tasco and Pennsylvania State Representatives Kathy Manderino and Babette Josephs, along with other notable Philadelphians, including former City Council Member Happy Fernandez, President of the Moore College of Art and Design; distinguished attorney Herman Mattleman and 2007 Philadelphia Award recipient Marciene Mattleman; Shelly Yanoff, President of Public Citizens for Children and Youth; Dr. Aaron Beck, creator of Cognitive Therapy and founder of The Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research; journalist, broadcaster and author Carol Saline; and pioneering broadcast journalist Marciarose Shestack. Principals from a number of the city's leading law firms, including Wolf Block and Cozen O'Connor, will also attend, as will executives from many of the city's largest health care and social service agencies, and many others.

The Master of Ceremonies is CBS 3 meteorologist Kathy Orr. Special presenters include Estelle B. Richman, Pennsylvania's Secretary of Public Welfare; Charles G. Curie, former Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration; and Dr. Arthur C. Evans, Director of Philadelphia's Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services. All three presenters have worked closely with Hurtig.

The evening will include chances to win various raffle items. Proceeds will benefit the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, a non-profit citizens' advocacy and service agency that promotes better treatment of adults and children with behavioral health disorders. MHASP, a United Way agency, serves Southeastern Pennsylvania as well as statewide and national constituencies.
