WASHINGTON, April 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities:
WHAT: Pope Benedict XVI's Visit to the United States
WHO: Deirdre McQuade is the chief spokesperson on pro-life issues for the Catholic bishops of the United States. She is available for interview and comment during Pope Benedict's visit to Washington, D.C. and New York City.
During his first U.S. visit, Pope Benedict XVI is expected to address, among other issues, what he has called "the intrinsic evil of the crime of abortion."
As Assistant Director of Policy & Communications for the Pro-Life Secretariat, Deirdre McQuade is the U.S. Catholic bishops' spokesperson on the subject of abortion.
The Catholic Church is perhaps our nation's leading pro-life voice, reaching millions of American through educational materials, multi-media advertizing campaigns, and media relations. The Pro-Life Secretariat promotes public policies recognizing the inherent dignity of all humans, including pregnant women and their unborn children.
Ms. McQuade notes that Pope Benedict has consistently emphasized the Church's teaching. "In attacking human life in its very first stages, it is also an aggression against society itself. Politicians and legislators, therefore, as servants of the common good, are duty bound to defend the fundamental right to life, the fruit of God's love," the pontiff said in 2005.
