Carolina Women's Physicians Raised Awareness During Endometriosis Month
Date:4/17/2013

Greenville, NC (PRWEB) April 17, 2013

Endometriosis is an ailment that occurs mostly in women in their 30s and 40s, but can occur any time in women who menstruate. Carolina Women’s Physicians offered extensive information to patients during Endometriosis Month in March. It is important to seek treatment, which will vary depending on the extent of the disease and whether the patient wants to have children.

The lining of the uterus is called the endometrium. Endometrial tissue can grow in other areas of the body, and when this happens it is referred to as endometriosis. This condition can cause pain before and during the menstrual period. The tissue tends to bind to other organs and tissue and can cause complications such as cysts and can lead to infertility.

The main symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain. This is also a common symptom of other problems, so it is best to see a doctor. Treatment can come in a few different forms, such as medications, oral contraceptives, Gonadotropin-releasing hormones, progestin and in severe cases, surgery. Patients can work with their doctors to decide on the best treatment for them.

Endometriosis is a long term condition, but there are many treatment options. Patients can ask the staff at Carolina Women’s Physicians facility about their symptoms and treatment options.
