Caribbean People International Collective Inc to Host 8th Annual AIDS WALK CARIBBEAN

BROOKLYN, N.Y., May 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Caribbean People International Collective Inc (CPIC) will host AIDS WALK CARIBBEAN (R) 2008. This 8th annual community event is set for Sunday, June 8th 2008--Caribbean American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The walk will begin with an opening sunrise ceremony at 9:30 A.M. and then will kick off from the Junction of Nostrand and Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn at 10:15 A.M. The 5 K Walk will continue throughout much of Flatbush ending at the Wingate Park.

AIDS Walk Caribbean is the largest AIDS event in Brooklyn and is expected to draw 400 participants in the quest to raise awareness, stop discrimination, stop stigmatization, and raise funds to support CPIC projects and persons living with HIV/AIDS in Brooklyn.

There are approximately 100,000 New Yorkers living with HIV, and New York City has the highest AIDS case rate in the country. In New York, 80% of new AIDS diagnoses and deaths are among African Americans and Hispanics. In the United States approximately 1 million people are living with HIV/AIDS and there are 33.2 million worldwide.

As part of the AIDS Walk Caribbean event on June 8 at Wingate Park in Brooklyn, NY the Mastermind, Nice & Nasty and K.B group from the Bahamas have been scheduled for a live concert. Additionally, an impressive list of performers and elected officials will greet the participants as the walk begins and ends.

"AIDS Walk Caribbean brings together people from various walks of life," said Dawn Stewart, CEO/Founder of CPIC, "many walkers have a personal connection to AIDS." They walk to remember loved ones who have passed, to help friends, family members and persons who are living with HIV/AIDS to survive and live happy and productive lives. Walkers will come together to remind the community that in 2008 the epidemic continues to affect Brooklyn in record numbers, and they will show their support by walking and raising money for people living with or affected by HIV/AI
