Carefx Implements Fusionfx at Fletcher Allen Health Care to Improve Anywhere/Anytime Access to Crucial Patient Information
Date:7/22/2009

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Carefx Corporation today announced the successful deployment of its Fusionfx solution at Fletcher Allen Health Care, a nationally recognized academic medical center that provides advanced care to approximately one million people in Vermont and northern New York. Over 2,000 physicians, nurses and other clinical staff are embracing Fusionfx, Carefx's clinical workflow solution, to access relevant patient information from multiple information systems.

Fusionfx streamlines how clinicians interact with patient data, reducing clinical errors and increasing individual productivity. By closing the gaps that occur between different providers, venues and systems, care providers can offer a more consistent, higher quality experience for the patient.

"The driving force behind selecting Carefx was our recent EPIC EHR implementation, which fundamentally changed the way we practiced medicine at the hospital," said Charles Podesta, Chief Information Officer for Fletcher Allen. "Although our clinical and administrative staff would be utilizing the Epic EHR system 24/7, there were still key clinical systems including PACS, Operating Room, Pre-Op and others that needed to interoperate with EPIC." Fusionfx enables Fletcher Allen's new EPIC Electronic Health Record System and mission critical applications to work in concert. Clinicians now benefit from highly synchronized patient information within the context of carefully studied clinical workflows.

The push to implement Fusionfx originated with Howard Schapiro, M.D., Fletcher Allen's Chair of Anesthesiology. He wanted to provide clinicians with rapid, intuitive access to patient data found within multiple OR-related applications. OR managers and clinicians now review surgical procedures scheduled for specific rooms, as well as availability of surgical instrumentation. Anesthesia providers are able to easily view both the anesthesia record and the hospital EHR. "The ability to log into EPIC and move immediately to the patient's order page has been positively received by our OR professionals," said Dr. Schapiro.

"Fletcher Allen selected Carefx over its competitor largely for its technology, application development, and use of industry standards, including Microsoft .Net," added Podesta. "Their products are extremely robust and stable, and easy to install and manage." He credits the successful Fusionfx implementation to Carefx's up-front planning process, which featured multi-day site visits and extensive discussions with a number of Fletcher Allen clinical experts to identify specialty, department and organizational needs, goals and objectives. The Carefx project team assembled an extensive functional specification that documented and ensured fulfillment of clinicians' needs.

"The successful implementation of our Fusionfx solution suite is a testament to Fletcher Allen's clearly articulated vision, defined goals and objectives, and most importantly, the incredible teamwork between the Carefx and Fletcher Allen project teams," said Andrew Hurd, Chairman and CEO of Carefx. "Fusionfx offers clinicians greater ability to access patient information, enabling Fletcher Allen to provide better patient care within their community."
