Capital BlueCross Invites National Association Leader Karen Ignagni to Discuss Status of Health Care Reform
Date:10/1/2009

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Today America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) President & CEO Karen Ignagni visited Harrisburg and talked to Capital BlueCross and guests about the current status of health care reform. Attendees included Pennsylvania Insurance Department Commissioner Joel Ario, a number of elected officials, Capital BlueCross members, representatives from area hospitals and providers, and representatives from Pennsylvania's three other Blue Plans.

The America's Health Insurance Plans is a national organization of nearly 1,300 member companies who provide health benefits to more than 200 million Americans.

Ignagni talked in detail about three of the key issues Congress is facing in regard to passing health care reform legislation -- the cost, accessibility and quality of health care.

"We want to ensure our community is fully informed on the health care debate that is taking place in Washington D.C., and to generate some positive discussion on ways in which we can help improve our health care infrastructure, in response to some of the potential national changes," said Bill Lehr, president & CEO of Capital BlueCross. "Karen Ignagni is a respected ambassador of our industry. There is no doubt that her voice has contributed to effective reform efforts, as she regularly testifies before Congress on key federal legislation. Her remarks today were dynamic and she certainly enlightened us all on the present and future of health care reform."

Capital BlueCross is the leading health insurer in its region, providing health insurance coverage to nearly one million people in central Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley. Capital BlueCross is committed to making health insurance simple for its customers and members through all the stages of life by offering nationally acclaimed customer service and a full range of innovative benefit programs at competitive prices.
