CITW has taken Hazzard's and Chang's work and rewritten the text to better express its full message. The final sign reads, "Unplanned Pregnancy? I Care. Ask me for help. Or call 1-800-395 HELP (4357)". The back of the sign lists numerous free resources for professional counseling, support, housing, and information on adoption and post-abortion healing.

Candleinthewindow.org models its concept after the Underground Railroad of the 1840s, by which kind-hearted people identified their homes as a safe haven by placing a light in the window each night.
