Can’t Afford to Invest in Patient Safety? LifeWings Offering Champagne TeamSTEPPS Programs for Hospitals on a Beer Budget
Date:9/29/2013

(PRWEB) September 29, 2013

TeamSTEPPS is a patient safety training developed by the Department of Defense Patient Safety Program in collaboration with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). TeamSTEPPS has a proven track record of reducing medical mistakes and improving patient outcomes.

The LifeWings TeamSTEPPS training program for statewide collaboratives provides an A-to-Z Master Training program with three live 2-day sessions and 9 training webinars. There are over 64 hours of training and four all-inclusive training manuals are provided.

Graduates of the program become certified TeamSTEPPS Master Trainers who are qualified to lead and manage the implementation of a hospital-based TeamSTEPPS program from start to finish. Training is provided to:

-Facilitate the 4-hour TeamSTEPPS course

-Conduct implementation readiness assessments

-Conduct site assessments and needs analyses

-Create and implement safety tools (e.g. checklists, scripts, handoffs, etc...) that hardwire TeamSTEPPS behaviors into daily work life

-Conduct TeamSTEPPS leadership development training

LifeWings is currently conducting a statewide collaborative in Tennessee for 36 hospitals. Except for travel expenses to the live training sessions, there is no cost to the collaborative members for participating in the Tennessee program as the initiative is being funded by grand monies.

The architect of the program, LifeWings CEO Steve Harden says, “It is estimated that up to 15% of hospitals will go out of business in the next few years because they can’t keep up with the changes in their reimbursement model. For those hospitals struggling to survive, this approach to patient safety training is a Godsend. By joining forces with their colleagues from other institutions in a collaborative, hospitals can improve safety and quality – and thus preserve their income. Without this sort of program to improve their outcomes and reimbursements, many hospitals are on a death spiral to insolvency.”

For those hospitals wishing to get started immediately on their patient safety program, it is not necessary to wait to join a statewide collaborative or to wait for the training at one of the AHRQ learning centers. LifeWings can come directly to hospitals for onsite training bringing with them the most experienced TeamSTEPPS trainers in the world.

On-site TeamSTEPPS training for hospitals range from a 2-day workshop that gives the same Master Trainer certification available from AHRQ sponsored resource centers, all the way to 15 days of world-class training similar to that provided through statewide collaboratives.

Interested hospitals can contact LifeWings for a quick diagnostic call to discuss organizational goals for TeamSTEPPS training. After the call, LifeWings experts can custom design an affordable and cost effective approach that will exactly meet the organization’s needs.
