Calvary Hospital to Host Ninth Annual Spiritual Care Day

Multicultural competencies and spirituality in end-of-life care will be the theme of this year’s Spiritual Care Day, presented by Calvary Hospital.

The ninth annual event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 at 630 Second Conference Center, located on Second Avenue at 34th Street in Manhattan. This location was chosen to conveniently accommodate the potential large number of attendees previous events have drawn.

Christina Puchalski, MD, MS, FACP, FAAHPM, director of the George Washington University Institute for Spirituality and Health, will deliver the keynote speech entitled “Whole Person Care: Integrating Spirituality into Care.” Calvary Hospital and Calvary Hospice experts will also present various workshops, including the following topics:

  •     Cultural Humility in a Multicultural World
  •     Caring for Culturally Diverse Patients and Families in the Hospital and at Home
  •     What Cultural Competency Training Should Look Like in End-of-Life Care
  •     Giving Meaning to Suffering at the End-of-Life
  •     Case Studies and Clinical Vignettes

All health care providers are welcome to attend. There is no fee involved, and those who do come will receive four Continuing Education Unit credits from ACPE, NACC, NAJC, and CPSP. Both breakfast and lunch will be served, and kosher meals are available upon request.
