California Physician Groups Recognized by Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA)

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) presented two sets of performance awards to physician groups in California at its annual Pay for Performance (P4P) Stakeholders Meeting yesterday. California's 47 most outstanding physician groups were honored for demonstrating top performance overall on important health care quality measures, including preventive care and chronic care management, patient satisfaction, and use of information technology to support safer care.

Additionally, the IHA is presenting the first annual "Ronald P. Bangasser, MD, Memorial Award for Quality Improvement" to physician groups that showed the most significant year-over-year improvement on P4P performance measures from 2005-2006. Dr. Bangasser, who passed away from cancer earlier this year, was a family physician and the vice-chairman of the Board of Beaver Medical Group. He was president of the California Medical Association from 2003-2004 and served on numerous high profile state and national quality committees and boards. He also chaired the IHA P4P Technical Quality Committee. (Additional details on Dr. Bangasser's life and work are available in a CMA press release.)

An overall performance score was used to determine award winners. For each physician group, composite scores in each of the three P4P measurement domains were calculated and
