California Medical Association Joins MedicAlert Foundation to Offer Medical Identification for Members and Patients

Alliance designed to benefit Californians with medical conditions

TURLOCK, Calif., May 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The California Medical Association (CMA), representing 35,000 physicians in all modes of practice and specialties, and the MedicAlert Foundation, the leading nonprofit providing identification and emergency medical information services, have teamed up to provide patients living with chronic conditions, allergies or special needs with a personalized medical identification and 24-hour emergency response service.

"MedicAlert was founded by a physician to protect people in times of medical emergencies and we believe this relationship goes right to the heart of our mission and history. The MedicAlert program will provide comprehensive services that can safeguard and identify individuals in an emergency. Members enrolled in the program will receive a personalized medical ID and wallet card that provide emergency responders with identification information and details on any critical medical conditions or life-threatening allergies. All calls to the Foundation's 24-hour emergency response center are answered by MedicAlert staff who provide vital information to first responders.

The MedicAlert program also ensures that designated contacts or caregivers will be notified if an individual requires emergency medical treatment in a caregiver's absence. Family and caregivers can also rest assured that any time a member wearing a MedicAlert ID has been treated or located, MedicAlert will contact them immediately.
