California Cryobank Introduces Celebrity Look-a-Likes for Sperm Donors

LOS ANGELES, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Interested in a sperm donor who resembles your favorite actor, athlete, or musician? California Cryobank (CCB), the nation's leading sperm bank, now offers a celebrity Donor Look-a-Likes feature, which allows clients to view online photos of celebrities who resemble each of CCB's 275+ donors.

"The number one client question we get is 'Who does this donor look like?'" says Scott Brown, Communications Manager for California Cryobank. "We decided this would be a great way to give thorough and consistent answers. Clients love it. Look-a-Likes has only been available for a week and our website traffic is up 50%."

It takes a lot more than famous looks to become a California Cryobank donor. Less than 1% of applicants make it through Cryobank's stringent screening process. Screening includes extensive genetic testing, regular blood tests, a three generation family medical history, and a sperm count/quality in the top 10-15% of the entire population. "We have extremely high standards," Brown explains. "Looking like a celebrity has nothing to do with the screening process. Finding Look-a-Likes comes long after a donor has been fully qualified."

How accurate are the Look-a-Likes? "We've had a team of employees working on the project for six months. Ultimately, we won't attach a celebrity to a donor unless we all agree on some level," Brown says. "Some donors have specific features that resemble their look-a-likes. Others have a more general resemblance, or have the same "type" of look. Our hope is that by comparing the 2-3 look-a-likes, a client will get a good overall sense of the donor's appearance."
