Caldwell College: A leader in training the new Autism specialists

CALDWELL, N.J., March 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Caldwell College will host a national conference on Innovations in Autism Treatment and Applied Behavior Analysis on Friday, April 17 and Friday, April 24, 2009 from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Widely recognized leaders in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a science based approach to learning, will speak at the conference. The forum is open to parents, professionals, teachers, caregivers and students.

Caldwell College is a leader in training the new autism specialists, offering a master's in ABA, the first college to do so in the state of New Jersey.

"This conference will provide a wonderful opportunity for educators, families, and students to learn about cutting edge innovations in autism treatment and ABA from internationally recognized leaders in the field. Over 40 years worth of research studies have shown us that Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an effective approach to teach social, communication, self-care, leisure, and academic skills to individuals with autism," said Sharon Reeve, Ph.D. BCBA, Coordinator of Graduate Studies in ABA at Caldwell College.

New Jersey has the highest prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders in the nation with 1 in 94 children affected.

"With the Garden State leading the nation in the prevalence of autism, it is crucial that we increase our efforts in promoting information about evidence-based treatment for autism and providing opportunities for training the new autism specialists," Reeve said.

Over the two days, there will be 12 workshops including:

Addressing the Challenging Behaviors of Adolescents with Autism with Richard M. Foxx, Ph.D., BCBA, Prof. of Psychology at Penn State Harrisburg
