CVS Caremark Issues Statement on Settlement Concerning Disposal of Patient Information at its Retail Stores
Date:2/18/2009

WOONSOCKET, R.I., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE: CVS) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) concerning disposal of patient information at its retail pharmacy stores. CVS Caremark is not aware of any consumer harm arising out of, or related to, the alleged incidents. Per the agreement with the FTC and the OCR, the Company has expressly denied engaging in any wrongful conduct and agreed to settle the matter in order to avoid the time and expense of further legal proceedings.

CVS Caremark is committed to being an industry leader in privacy matters and places high priority on protecting the privacy of its customers and plan participants. The Company has comprehensive policies and procedures in place to safeguard personal and health information and follows federal and state laws in handling this sensitive data. CVS Caremark's settlement obligations with the FTC and the OCR reinforce existing business practices in reg
