San Diego - poised to become the epicenter for a rapidly emerging and convergent industry - wireless healthcare

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- San Diego, with one of the nation's largest life science and wireless clusters, is poised to become the epicenter for a rapidly emerging and convergent industry - wireless healthcare. Recognizing the potential to leverage the region's remarkable resources, the West Wireless Health Institute was launched in 2009 with a $45 million commitment from the Gary and Mary West Foundation. Scripps Health and Qualcomm are collaborating closely as the Institute's healthcare affiliate and technology sponsor.

"San Diego-The Nation's Hub for Wireless Healthcare" event, October 6, 2009, will be lead by The West Wireless Institute's Gary West, Founder and Chairman, as well as their Chief Medical Officer, Eric J. Topol and Chief Wireless Officer, Donald Jones, who will discuss their vision for the West Wireless Institute - to move emerging wireless health technologies quickly into the hands of doctors, healthcare organizations and consumers, while ensuring that life-enhancing and lifesaving devices are safe, secure, and cost-effective. By bringing together the best minds in science, technology, engineering and medicine, the West Wireless Health Institute aims to play a pivotal role in advancing wireless health research and education.
