SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CHF International has been selected as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria's (Global Fund) new Principal Recipient (PR) for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in Honduras--the only country in Latin America awarded an HIV proposal in Round 3 programming.
As a PR, over the next six years, CHF will be directly responsible for managing Honduras' US$47 million in HIV-focused resources for the Global Fund, including program development, technical support, volunteer and community mobilization, pharmaceutical procurement and monitoring and evaluation. CHF International will directly sub-grant the Global Fund resources to the Honduran government and civil society organizations fighting the epidemic, while building their capacity to provide sustainable, high-quality services.
"After 20 continuous years of working in Honduras, we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to help the country develop the sustainable systems and technical capacity needed for them to effectively respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic on their own," said Randy Lyness, CHF International's Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
For five years, CHF International successfully managed the Sustainable Improvements to Family Health Program, a partnership of CHF, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Honduras Ministry of Health and the National Water and Sewer Authority. The program provided grant funds to 43 government health program implementers to improve reproductive heath and child survival, infectious disease, health reform, and the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually-transmitted infections.
Guided by CHF International's community-based approach, one of the
organization's key efforts will be working at grassroots levels with
community members and volunteers so that they can more effectively sustain
their efforts in HIV education, prevention, treatment and
