Bumble Bee Foods Encourages Participation in Final Month of 2009 BeeWell Miles Program to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- October marks the final month of Bumble Bee Foods' 2009 BeeWell Miles program and the company - whose mission is to provide products and programs that promote health and wellness - is encouraging participation through October 31 to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

BeeWell Miles, a signature consumer program by Bumble Bee now in its second year, is an interactive initiative that inspires people to exercise and eat healthier using the dedicated resource Web site BeeWellMiles.com. Starting in April, participants can log the miles they walk, run or bike at BeeWellMiles.com. Bumble Bee then matches miles logged with a donation of 15 cents per mile to provide support to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength® YourShoes® 24/7 breast cancer support center. The BeeWell Miles program culminates in October each year, coinciding with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

BeeWellMiles.com provides various information and helpful tools that consumers can use to engage in a healthier lifestyle. For example, a mapping tool enables participants to track their favorite walking or running routes, calculate mileage and share their maps with other members. In addition, BeeWell Miles' Coach Jenny Hadfield and Nutritionists Willow Jarosh and Stephanie Clarke blog weekly and provide easy-to-follow advice on staying active and eating healthy.

BeeWellMiles.com also offers information on achieving energy balance. By logging miles and diet information daily, participants can measure and manage their daily calorie intake against the calories they expend with exercise.

In conjunction with the BeeWell Miles program, Bumble Bee produces pink cans of Bumble Bee® Solid White Albacore - a low fat, high protein food ideal for a healthy diet. On these pink cans, game codes can be found that offer the chance to win one of 15,000 available prizes on BeeWellMiles.com. Prizes include music downloads, Lady Foot Locker® $100 gift cards, flowers and a spa trip valued at $25,000. Each time a participant wins a prize of flowers, a second bouquet is sent to someone who has reached out to the Network of Strength® 24/7 breast cancer support center.
