Bruce Plaxen Named 2008 Maryland Trial Lawyer of the Year by Maryland Association for Justice

Columbia-based plaintiffs' lawyer adds another professional accolade to his distinguished career as attorney in Maryland

Columbia, Maryland (Lexis Nexis) -- Bruce Plaxen, founding partner of the Columbia-based law firm Plaxen & Adler, has been honored as the 2008 Maryland Trial Lawyer of the Year by the non-profit Maryland Association for Justice.

Mr. Plaxen was presented with the award at the organization's 56th Annual Presidents Dinner, which was held last month at the Tremont Hotel in Baltimore and featured an appearance by Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley. Mr. Plaxen was selected, along with four other litigators, for their years of work together on behalf of HMO plan members in Maryland. Mr. Plaxen and his colleagues were able to recover millions of dollars that had been wrongfully taken from their clients by the HMOs and secured two precedent-setting decisions in the process, including a decision from Maryland's highest court limiting the power of the General Assembly to enact retroactive laws.

"I'm very honored to receive this award and accept it with great pride because it is recognition of the kind of work that my firm has been doing for nearly a quarter-century here in Maryland," said Mr. Plaxen. "We are not afraid to take on challenges and are committed to treating each person who walks through our doors with the same respect and care as the largest case in the office."

Mr. Plaxen's award marks the second consecutive year that he has been honored with statewide recognition. Previously, the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association (MTLA) presented him with the prestigious
