SAN FRANCISCO, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Brown & Toland Medical Group today announced a strong financial performance in 2007, with an operating income of $12 million on total revenues of $235 million.

The medical group also reported receiving approximately $4 million for pay for performance and other related bonuses from health plans. The medical group also announced that it will distribute an additional $8.2 million in bonus payments to eligible physicians. In 2007 Brown & Toland physicians received $7.2 million in general and quality bonuses from the medical group.

"In 2007 we accelerated the rollout of our Physician Practice Solutions information technology program, and put strategies in place that will help transform Brown & Toland into a medical group that offers numerous products, not just HMO, to its physicians and patients."

Austin noted that in 2007 Brown & Toland took major strides to become an all-products company by beginning to build a PPO claims administration model that will allow the company to pay PPO claims, much like it pays HMO claims, to physicians. Brown & Toland's PPO physicians will benefit from a number of administrative efficiencies and consumers also will benefit by receiving comprehensive and coordinated care. Currently, there are more than 750 physicians in the Brown & Toland PPO network, and the medical group holds contracts with 11 PPOs.
