Breastfeeding Boutique Offering Lactation Consultations Over the Internet
Date:1/11/2010

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Milkalicious was founded in 2008 with the ambitious goal of providing community-based, long-term support for breastfeeding mothers. Milkalicious is targeting the modern mom by offering Lactation Consultations via SKYPE video chat. "Lack of support is the main reason a new mother quits breastfeeding," states Jennifer Ritchie, a Board Certified Lactation Consultant and owner of Milkalicious. "Every new mom has a ton of questions, especially about feeding, and we are here to answer those questions. All a new mom needs is a computer and webcam, and for $45, they can meet with a lactation consultant for up to an hour."

Milkalicious encourages first-time breastfeeding mothers to seek help from a professional lactation consultant within the first few days after giving birth. Jennifer also emphasizes the importance of seeking help before there is a problem. "It's much easier to have someone show you early on, before latch-on problems turn into sore nipples or lead to formula supplementation."

Making breastfeeding support readily available to mothers by offering professional help over the Internet is cutting-edge and will work in increasing breastfeeding rates globally, and ultimately save lives. In 2009 the World Health Organization reported that if global breastfeeding rates stood at 90%, it would save 1.3 million under-age-5 deaths per year. Milkalicious online Lactation Consultations create a network of support that will aid in growing the number of moms who breastfeed.

About Milkalicious:

The new modern woman is knowledgeable, independent and strong, but giving birth can make that same woman vulnerable, insecure and anxious. Milkalicious gives a new mother a venue to be heard, and gives the newborn baby the be
