Brandith Irwin, MD, Answers New Blog Question on Her Website About Preventing Eye Wrinkles at Ages 30 to 40

(PRWEB) June 24, 2013

Every week, Brandith Irwin, MD, answers questions from readers of her blog, A recent blog provides information on the best ways to prevent wrinkles around eyes at ages 30 to 40.

"Wrinkles around the eyes are complicated because some are caused by the muscle movement, some are caused by the usual suspects like allergies, sun damage and puffiness from various things, and some are caused by gradual loss of volume (fat and skin) as we age," explains Dr. Irwin. Wrinkles around the eyes can start to form in our 30s.

Muscle movement is just one factor contributing to eye wrinkles starting at age 30. A small amount of Botox or Dysport around the eyes may be helpful but people at the age of 30 should mainly take advantage of products that aid in protecting your skin against dryness and sun damage. According to Dr. Irwin, Dermalogica eye cream with sunscreen, is a great option for anyone looking for an eye cream with SPF. A specific eyelid sunscreen in the morning coupled with sunglasses will help prevent wrinkles or lines around the eyes. Also a good eyelid moisturizer at night like SkinCeuticals Eye Balm is preventive because eyelid skin has almost no oil glands and thus very little natural moisture.

Additionally, Dr. Irwin shares that people at age 30 should start to consider "doing one gentle eyelid treatment per year that builds collagen." Eyelid Thermage and the eyelid Fraxel laser treatment both have FDA approved tips for the eyelids. Eyelid Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to tighten and lift the eyelid skin. In a 2007 study, 5700 patients were surveyed for full face treatment at multiple clinics and 87 percent observed immediate tightening. The majority of people saw results within six months and were very satisfied with the results. The Fraxel laser is fractionated and uses light energy reduce sun damage. Both eyelid Thermage and Fraxel build your own natural collagen over 3-6 months and are a great way to maintain the eyelid skin over time.

Unlike most prominent dermatologists, Dr. Irwin has no financial ties to any skin care manufacturer or laser company. She does not sit on any boards, act as a spokesperson, accept any fees, or endorse any line of cosmetics. She is a board-certified dermatologist who practices in Seattle, WA, at the practice she founded, Madison Skin & Laser Center. Additionally, she has published multiple anti-aging books, the most recent titled, "The Surgery-Free Makeover: All You Need To Know For Great Skin And A Younger Face." has quickly become a highly sought out source for cosmetic dermatology and skincare product information for women on the Internet.
