Date:9/19/2013

Boston, MA (PRWEB) September 19, 2013

Boston Children’s Museum, one of the oldest and most influential children’s museums in the world, announced its Big 100th Birthday Weekend plans. The Museum will celebrate its birthday with a festival of indoor and outdoor music, performing arts, science, fitness, live animals, a floating birthday cake, and more. The weekend caps-off a spring and summer of joyful programs and events that touched thousands of families and children and saw the generosity of numerous sponsors and partners of the Museum.

The weekend kicks off Friday, October 4 at 4:30pm with a jubilant “Happy Birthday” and a delicious piece of birthday cake created by Montilio’s Baking Company. Then, continues with the Remix of the Ages dance party led by youth and supported by adults. Activities will include a DJ battle, generation themed dance lessons and dance battles featuring the Boston Celtics’ Dancers ‘Lil Phunk, the ICA DJ Collective, and Urbanity Dance. The 500 member Boston Children’s Chorus will perform, “I Am a River of Hope” a song written and composed by Jim Papoulis for the Museum’s 100th birthday.

"I don't think we could have packed any more into three days - from a Harbor floating cake to indoor and outdoor music to the National Grid Tinker Tent, New Balance Games and our Gala and 'Up Too Late' parties for adults - this weekend has something for everyone. It's a giant celebration and thank you from us to the families of Boston," said Carole Charnow, President & CEO Boston Children’s Museum.

Saturday, October 5 is a full day of family-friendly programs and events including the National Grid Tinker Tent filled with science and hands-on making and fixing activities, and performances by Urbanity Dance through the Ages, Revels, the Afro-Brazilian Ensemble, and Iskwelahang Pilipino Rondalla. Then, the celebration takes to the sea (actually the Boston Harbor) and floats into action with the Inflatable Cake Tour around the Boston Harbor making stops at 1 Marina Drive, Charlestown Navy Yard and the New England Aquarium.

Saturday evening, the Museum will celebrate and commemorate this important anniversary at a festive black tie Gala at the InterContinental Boston Hotel. All of the proceeds raised will go directly to supporting the Museum’s mission of providing a hands-on, multisensory environment that sparks the imagination and curiosity of children, and ensuring that we are able to welcome all children through our extensive discounted/free membership program.

From 9pm until 1am the party continues with Up Too Late – The Party of a Century. The Museum will be bursting at the seams with dancing, food, drink, and unexpected delights as party-goers stay “Up Too Late” and celebrate Boston Children’s Museum's 100th birthday.

The festive weekend concludes on Sunday, October 6 with visiting artists, live animals, New Balance games, and performers Karen Montanaro, Boston Bhangra, and Boston Ballet senior students.

Boston Children’s Museum extends special thanks to Centennial Lead Sponsors Highland Street Foundation and State Street Corporation and to Supporting Sponsors Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, New Balance Foundation, National Grid, Suffolk Construction, The Fallon Company, BNY Mellon, CBS Boston's WBZ-TV and myTV38 (WSBK-TV), Massachusetts Cultural Council, Target Corporation and The Boston Foundation.

The Big 100th Birthday Weekend is a culmination of a series of events and public programs designed to promote early childhood education and support the role of play in the lives of children and families.
