Date:3/22/2010

SUFFERN, N.Y., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard J. Statuto, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bon Secours Health System Inc., announces the appointment of Philip A. Patterson as Chief Executive Officer of Bon Secours Charity Health System (BSCHS).  Patterson, 41, is one of the nation's youngest CEOs of a regional health system.

In this role, Patterson will lead the strategy, operations and performance of BSCHS, which includes accountability for three acute care hospitals – Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y.; Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y.; and St. Anthony Community Hospital, Warwick, N.Y. – and a regional home healthcare agency, two long-term care facilities, and an assisted living and adult home facility.

"For the past five months, Philip served as interim CEO and led the BSCHS leadership through a reorganization designed to align talent and resources around the System's mission and strategic plan," said Statuto.  "His dynamic leadership within the healthcare facilities, the communities they serve, and his extensive experience, makes Philip a clear choice to lead the System."

Previously, Patterson was Chief Operating Officer for BSCHS and Executive Vice President of BSCHS' Good Samaritan Hospital.  He will report to Statuto.

Patterson came to BSCHS from Allina Hospitals and Clinics (Allina) in Minneapolis, where he served for six years, including holding the role of vice president of operations/COO for Mercy Hospital in Minneapolis.  Prior to Allina, Patterson was with HealthSouth Hospital Corp. in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market, where he held executive leadership positions in operations, with responsibilities for acute rehabilitation hospitals, clinics, physician practices, mergers and joint ventures.

Patterson earned his master's degree in Health Administration from Georgia State University, in Atlanta; a master's degree in Business Administration from University of Alabama, in Birmingham, Ala.; and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Auburn University, in Auburn, Ala.

He holds offices in several national organizations including the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), where he is a Fellow (FACHE), and received the Board of Governor's ACHE Service Award in 2008.  Patterson served as Committee Chair, ACHE National Early Careerist Committee in 2008 and was a member of the Minnesota Regent's Advisory Council.  He is a founding member and past president of the American College of Healthcare Executives-Minnesota State Chapter.  He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, the University of Minnesota Multicultural Mentoring Program, a member of Rotary International, and a past board member of Suburban Imaging LLC.

Since joining the Bon Secours Charity Health System, Patterson has become a member of the Rockland Business Association, the Rockland Economic Development Council and is Chairman for the 2010 Tri-County Heart Walk for the Orange-Rockland-Sullivan County Division of the American Heart Association.
