Boeing, Intel, Maricopa Community Colleges Prep Educators for New Crop of High Tech Courses, Students

9:
8:30am – 9:45 am. Making Connections to the Real World/Presentation Skills: Nanotechnology. Participants will learn about everyday products that use nanotechnology such as stain-resistant pants and socks that don’t make your feet sweat!
10:00am – 11:30am. Contextual Learning: Aeronautics. Teachers learn the principals of aeronautics in a hands-on activity and discuss how to help students make connection between their education and future career choices.

“Boeing is proud to support programs like High-Tech U’s Teacher Academy workshop that provide teachers with tools, resources and innovative ideas to inspire and excite students about math and science,” said Mary Baldwin, Boeing Arizona Global Corporate Citizenship community investor. “Their students will learn critical thinking and problem-solving, primary skills needed in STEM career fields to help position them for future success.”

In Arizona, the http://www.matec.org [http://www.matec.org [M aricopa Advanced Techn __title__ MATEC]ology Education Center __title__ MATEC] (MATEC) has produced 19 student programs and 2 teacher programs with the continued support of industry partners such as Boeing and Intel. MATEC, a department in Workforce Development, is a member of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs at the Maricopa Community Colleges.

High Tech U was created by San Jose, Calif.-based SEMI as a way of getting more students interested in high-tech careers. SEMI® is the global industry association serving the manufacturing supply chain for the micro- and nano-electronics industries, and has been delivering the HTU program internationally since 2001. The SEMI High Tech U Teacher Academy is also an official event of the Arizona SciTech Festival.
