Blues CEO Encourages Graduates to Stay and Lead Michigan

DETROIT, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Speaking in Mt. Pleasant at the Central Michigan University fall commencement program on Saturday, Dec. 12, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan President and CEO Daniel J. Loepp will ask graduates to stay in Michigan and contribute to the state's comeback.

Loepp will encourage graduates to "invest their energy, intelligence, creativity and commitment in Michigan's future."

The Blues leader, who will also receive an honorary doctorate degree from Central Michigan University, will tell graduates Michigan needs their talents now more than ever.

"The fuel for our renewal here in Michigan is intellectual and creative capital. In short -- it is you," Loepp will tell CMU degree candidates.

Central Michigan University and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are both organizations mission-driven to give back to their communities and their home state, Loepp will point out. He will add that he did not come to the Blues to lead an insurance company, but to lead a company that is committed to Michigan.

"I came -- and stayed -- because my company is uniquely committed to Michigan. We live here. We are connected to everyone in Michigan health care. And we are invested in creating a healthier future for our people, our communities and our health care system," Loepp will state.

When he assumed his current position in mid-2006, Loepp took the reigns of Michigan's largest health insurer and the nation's largest single-state nonprofit health plan. During his tenure, BCBSM has maintained and increased its commitment to the state as an economic engine, corporate citizen, supporter of urban centers and champion for transforming the health of all Michigan residents. BCBSM employs more than 7,000 Michiganders across the state.
