Environmentally Friendly Facility Will House More than 1000 Jobs for Lodi's largest Private Employer
LODI, Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Continuing its long-term commitment to the Lodi community, Blue Shield of California opens its doors to its new twenty-acre Lodi campus today, expanding operations and creating a centralized customer service center. Today, the first group of approximately 70 Blue Shield employees move into the new campus, located at 3021 Reynolds Ranch Parkway, just off the Harney Lane exit on Highway 99. When construction is complete in November 2008, the facility will house approximately 900 employees working in customer service, claims and membership processing, underwriting and other administrative functions, with capacity for a total of 1050 employees. There is potential for a second phase of construction that could expand the campus to house an additional 400 - 500 employees.
"After 24 years in Lodi, we are proud to have a new campus for our employees to call home, bringing new career opportunities and a renewed commitment to the local economy," said Bob Novelli, executive vice president of customer service and corporate marketing at Blue Shield of California. "The new facility brings together all our customer service capabilities, allowing Blue Shield to integrate its processes and better serve our customers."
The new facility is environmentally friendly, technologically advanced, and offers amenities such as a full service cafeteria and onsite gym. The building features construction materials made from renewable resources, recycled materials and products that are available locally. Blue Shield has also installed energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems, special plumbing to reduce water use, an irrigation system using reclaimed water, and is recycling 50% of construction waste.
Three years ago, Blue Shield began its search for a location to build a new facility in San Joaquin County. In May of 2006, the company announced plans to construct a new facility in Lodi as part of the Reynolds Ranch development. With the strong support of Lodi City Councilmen Bob Johnson and Larry Hansen, the development project obtained the necessary permits and construction began in September of 2007. In just a little over a year, the facility is open for business.
"Seeing this building open is the gratifying result of years of hard work by Blue Shield, the developers and the city of Lodi," Councilman Johnson said. "At a time when the economy is soft, this is a very positive development for our community," added Councilman Hansen.
The facility is part of the Reynolds Ranch Development by Reynolds Ranch Partners, was designed by architects, Williams + Paddon Architects + Planners, Inc., and built by DPR Construction, Inc.
