Blue Shield of California Names Two New Senior Vice Presidents
Date:3/23/2009

SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blue Shield of California announced two additions to its senior management team on Tuesday, promoting Rob Geyer and Janet Widmann to senior vice president. The promotions are an extension of previous changes announced by chairman and CEO Bruce Bodaken earlier this year, when Paul Markovich was promoted to chief operating officer.

Geyer, previously vice president of customer service & claims, was named senior vice president of customer operations. He is now responsible for the entire customer operations group, including customer service, claims, installation & membership, and operations finance. Geyer will report to Bodaken.

Widmann, previously vice president of CalPERS, Labor, Public and Strategic Accounts, will now be senior vice president responsible for her previous portfolio as well as all product development for mid-size and large business groups. She will continue to report to Paul Markovich.

"I am very pleased to add Rob and Janet to our senior leadership team," said Bodaken. "The promotions are great examples of the depth of our leadership team. They will help us continue to deliver high quality healthcare coverage to Californians," said Bodaken.

Geyer joined Blue Shield in 1995, and during his fourteen years with the company, he has served in a variety of leadership roles. Prior to joining Blue Shield, he worked for FHP, Inc., a mixed model HMO based in Southern California, in the areas of provider relations and healthcare delivery operations. Geyer received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis and a master's degree in business administration from Pepperdine University.

In her six years with Blue Shield, Widmann played a key role in managing the CalPERS account and has significantly increased Blue Shield's labor, public sector and large private sector business, adding more than 300,000 new members in the past three years. She holds a B.S. degree in Health Administration from California State University, Northridge and an M.S. in Health Administration from the University of Southern California.
