Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Partners with Community Providers to Offer Low-Cost 'BlueSelect' Health Plan for Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties
Date:1/28/2009

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (BCBSF) has partnered with numerous health care providers in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties to offer BlueSelect(R), a new addition to its low-cost portfolio of health care plans. This affordable option features a community based network, allowing members to enjoy savings of up to 20 percent on services and premiums, without sacrificing quality coverage. BlueSelect, designed for the working uninsured or those who are at risk of becoming uninsured, will expand throughout the State over the next year. It is ideal for individuals and small employers who want to provide coverage for employees looking for greater affordability.

"We have partnered with local hospitals and other providers to develop BlueSelect for those who are uninsured or may soon become uninsured," said Craig Thomas, vice president of Marketing Operations. "By working with these community health care providers, compared to other networks, we can keep costs down and offer yet another affordable health plan option to Floridians."

BlueSelect offers similar comprehensive insurance benefits as the traditional BlueOptions(R), using a combination of quality providers covering all medical specialties. The network benefit coverage is comparable to existing plans with a higher benefit level for in-network services and a lower benefit level for coverage out-of-network. Both provide access to comprehensive prevention and wellness benefits, support services, and personalized care programs. In addition, the plans offer valuable discounts on programs and services such as weight and stress management, alternative medicine, and vision and hearing care.
