Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Closes Detroit Operations October 31 Due to B...( DETROIT Oct. 31 /- Blue Cross Blu...),Health

DETROIT, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has closed its Detroit-based operations today in response to a bomb threat received this morning.

The closings affect Blue Cross buildings on Lafayette Avenue in Detroit, including the Tower and Bricktown Customer Service Center buildings. The company's office building on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit was also closed. About 3,000 employees who work in the impacted facilities are being sent home for the day.

The closings impact the following customer service operations:

-- Southeast Michigan customer service

-- Medicare Advantage customer and provider service

-- Southeast Provider Service

-- Federal Employee Program customer and provider service

The company has been in contact with the Detroit Police Department and the Michigan State Police regarding the threat.

"We conducted an immediate investigation of this threat and found sufficient cause to act on behalf of the safety of our employees in closing these facilities for the day," said Darrell Middleton, BCBSM senior vice president of Human Performance.
