A horrible tragedy occurred last Tuesday, June 4, 2013 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, when a four year old girl who was walking on the sidewalk with her grandmother near her school was struck and killed by an out of control SUV that had jumped the curb. According to the June 10, 2013 Daily News article titled "Ariel Russo's mother pays a tearful goodbye to her 4-year-old 'princess'" (linked below), the SUV was driven by 17 year old Franklin Reyes, who apparently panicked after police tried to pull him over, lost control of his vehicle and jumped the curb onto the sidewalk. According to the Daily News, the driver has been criminally charged with vehicular manslaughter.
There are no words sufficient to describe the depth of the loss of someone so young.
