Birmingham Maple Clinic Reports New Video Game May Help Treat Schizophrenia
Date:2/23/2013

Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) February 23, 2013

Michigan mental health providers at the Birmingham Maple Clinic recently published a blog post discussing a new project that is looking at the effectiveness of treating schizophrenia with video brain training in the form of a computer game. As noted in the post, which discusses clinical trials of brain training software currently underway by Posit Science and the University of California at San Francisco, offering mental health treatment that includes brain training may help to correct the disconnect that patients who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia may have between what the brain expects and what actually happens next. This known link, which may be related to a problem with how the brain processes verbal and auditory cues, is something that brain training may be able to correct.

Lori Edelson, therapist at the mental health clinic in Troy, which provides treatment for schizophrenia and other mental health conditions said, “There is still so much we don’t know about schizophrenia, however, we do know that it greatly effects an individual’s cognitive and emotional systems and that there is much more research that needs to be done in terms of effective treatment.”

Birmingham Maple Clinic offers treatment for schizophrenia that includes personalized care that is managed by an in-house team of mental health experts and a caring staff. The Clinic utilizes the latest research and techniques to provide top-rate mental health care services in Michigan.
