Birmingham Maple Clinic Recognizes National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
Date:7/12/2013

Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) July 12, 2013

The Birmingham Maple Clinic recently reported that July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about severe mental illness in diverse communities, while highlighting avenues for wellness and recovery. Lori Edelson, LMSW, LMFT, therapist at the Birmingham Maple Clinic said, “When it comes to mental health care and minorities in the US, the statistics don’t lie. The Surgeon General reports that minorities have less access to and less availability of mental health services, and often receive lesser quality mental health care. This is a sad reminder that many individuals in this country do not have access to the mental health resources they so desperately need.”

As reported by the clinic, which employs over 39 expert therapists and professional staff from a wide variety of cultures and professional backgrounds, this year’s events hope to raise awareness for the continued need for improved mental health support in diverse communities. Edelson added, “When individuals are unable to get the care they need due to a lack of mental health clinics, or because they are uninsured, it points to a need for improved care in proper diagnosis and treatment of mental illness in minority populations.”

The Birmingham Maple Clinic offers mental health counseling and family counseling, and offers bilingual services from its diverse staff. Multi-lingual therapy is available in German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.

The clinic treats a variety of mental health disorders that affect both children and adults, including depression, anxiety and family issues. Patients of the clinic receive personalized care that is managed by an in-house team of mental health experts and a caring staff.

Birmingham Maple Clinic has been specializing in mental health services in Michigan since 1972, providing services for individuals, couples, families, groups and the community. The clinic provides treatment for a variety of psychological conditions, including child and adult ADHD, anxiety and panic disorders, chronic illness, depression, grief and loss, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexual addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder and marriage, family and relationship counseling.
