Bird B Gone Offers Solutions to Bird Flu Threat to Poultry Farms

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2015

Bird B Gone, the leader in bird control products for commercial, industrial and residential applications now offers a complete line of bird control solutions to address the growing threat of bird flu to poultry farms.

New Flu Strains Threaten Pacific, Central and Mississippi Farms

According to an April 22, 2015 USDA post , a number of highly pathogenic avian flus in the Pacific, Central and Mississippi migratory bird paths. The disease is often spread when wild birds enter poultry farms. The USDA urges farmers to practice good biosecurity to prevent contact between their birds and wild birds and to report sick birds or unusual birds deaths to State/Federal officials. According to an April 22, 2015 USDA blog, the USDA has noted the emergence of new types of AI virus in which mutations occur easily. New strains can occur naturally at any time within avian hosts. The concern is whether these mutations can cause severe disease or increase the transmissibility between birds or mammals.

Legal Bird Controls Strongly Advised

While it’s often tempting to use lethal means to eliminate wild birds (shoot, trap or poison), all wild birds (except pigeons, house sparrows and starlings) are protected by federal and state laws. Property owners/managers may NOT trap, kill or possess protected species without federal and state permits. Regulatory officials are serious about enforcing these laws. According to an April 9 2009 article by Frank Jones in The Poultry Site, one Georgia cattle company spread poison corn around a pond on their property to kill nuisance birds. The tainted corn resulted in the death of over 3,000 birds of various species. The cattle company subsequently paid fines of over $265,000. To help mitigate these avian threats, the bird control experts at Bird B Gone offer a number of highly effective, humane solutions to deter pest birds and other potentially disease carrying wildlife.

Bird Netting Excludes Wild Birds

Ideal for blocking out wild birds around large poultry farms, Bird B Gone’s Bird Net 2000 Heavy Duty Bird Netting is easily installed and made of a tough UV-stabilized polyethylene mesh. The durable netting is rot proof, water proof and flame resistant. The netting comes in stock sizes and custom cuts up to 200 ft. Three different mesh sizes are available to block out various wild bird species. The 1-1/8" mesh is most effective for larger wild birds.

Vinyl Strip Doors for Loading Docks

Bird B Gone’s Vinyl Strip Doors block out pest birds from loading dock areas where their entry would contaminate areas with bird droppings and debris. Vinyl Strip Doors come in either standard sizes or custom cuts and in a variety of widths and lengths. The panels come complete with all the necessary hardware and are ready to hang. The stripped panels separate easily to allow crew, pallet loaders and forklifts to pass through them.

Sonics for Wide Open Spaces

Bird B Gone’s Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic is a programmable sound deterrent scientifically designed to deter birds from large open spaces. The device fully exploits a bird’s natural alertness and sensitive hearing—hearing that is similar to humans who, like birds, do not hear the ultrasonic sounds emitted by some high frequency devices. The versatile Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic broadcasts actual pre-recorded distress and predator calls of over 24 types of birds, including pigeons, crows, gulls, starlings, woodpeckers and geese. A convenient LCD display panel shows the unit’s operating status and user settings at all times. The unit comes with one internal speaker that will cover up to an acre of property.

Scare Birds in Specific Areas

Bird B Gone’s inflatable scare balloon features a large, mock predator eye to spook a wide variety of birds. When these balloons twist and bob in the breeze, birds perceive them as life-like predators. The same holds true for Scare Eye Diverters. These teardrop shaped deterrents feature an intimidating predator eye set against a reflective surface.

Cannons for Fields, Vineyards, Orchards

Bird B Gone’s ZonTM Bird Scare CannonsTM produce a regulated sonic blast to scare pest birds and wildlife. They’re ideal for deterring pest birds and other intrusive wildlife from entering agricultural fields, vineyards, orchards or any other large open areas. Some models feature a built-in timer and provide multi-shot, automatic, random, on-demand modes, as well as a hose facture protection regulator.

Lasers for Large Areas Around Farms

Bird B Gone’s Agrilaser® uses advanced, patented optical laser-beam technology to harmlessly repel birds over great distances—up to 2,000 meters. The handheld device is silent and completely portable. Pest birds react to the green beam as they would an approaching car, so they flee the area. Developed with the help of ornithologists to repel a wide variety of birds, the Agrilaser® repels geese, gulls, crows, starlings and pigeons. Livestock such as cows, pigs and chickens will ignore the laser beam.

General Preventative Measures

It’s called bio-security for birds, the initiative designed to help keep farm birds healthy. The USDA recommends following consistent bio-security practices as the best way to prevent diseases such as avian influenza (AI) and exotic Newcastle disease (END). These daily practices include:

  • Isolating birds from visitors and other birds, especially wild birds
  • Prevent germs from spreading by cleaning shoes, tools and equipment
  • Clean vehicles and cages used for transport
  • Avoid sharing tools and equipment with neighbors
  • Watch for early warning signs to prevent the spread of disease
  • Report unusual signs of bird disease or unexpected deaths

Bird B Gone is the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of bird control products, providing effective and humane solutions to a bird-free environment. The company provides advice; training and installation services for those who need help with these and other bird control measures.
