Biomet Hip Lawsuit News: Claims in Federal Biomet Hip Replacement Litigation Surpass 650, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports

New York, New York (PRWEB) September 22, 2013

Biomet hip lawsuits ( involving the M2a Magnum Hip Replacement System continue to move forward in a federal multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, 652 Biomet hip replacement claims are now pending in the litigation. The Court will convene the litigation’s next Status Conference on September 23, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. (In re: Biomet M2a Magnum Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2391)

“It’s not surprising that there are now more than 650 Biomet hip lawsuits pending in the federal litigation. Our Firm hears from M2a Magnum hip recipients on a regular basis who have suffered serious complications allegedly due to its metal-on-metal design,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to offer free and confidential legal evaluations to individuals who may have been injured by this Biomet hip replacement.

Biomet Hip Replacement Litigation
According to court records, all of the Biomet hip lawsuits filed in the Northern District of Indiana allege its metal-on-metal design can cause the hip to shed dangerous amounts of metal debris, leading to serious complications, including premature failure. In many cases, plaintiffs say they have been forced to undergo painful revision surgeries to have the M2a Magnum hip removed and replaced. However, due to bone and tissue loss allegedly caused by the Biomet hip replacement, many of these patients continue to suffer from pain and disability.

In January 2013, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned that metal-on-metal hip implants like the M2a Magnum were associated with higher rates of early failure compared to those composed of other materials. Recipients of these types of hips have been advised to undergo metal ion blood testing if they experience any symptoms that would indicate their hip is not performing as it should. In addition, the FDA proposed new guidelines that, if adopted, would impose stricter regulatory controls on metal-on-metal hip implants.

Biomet hip replacement recipients who have experienced complications allegedly related to the Biomet M2a Magnum hip system may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.
