Betsy McCaughey Rallies to Protect Seniors & Your Healthcare Choices

NEW YORK, July 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Betsy McCaughey, prominent patient advocate and outspoken critic of health bills being pushed through Congress, is the keynote speaker at a Tea Party in Hicksville, LI, where she will rally to protect seniors from dangerous cuts to Medicare and push for more healthcare choices for Americans.

The Tea Party's organizer, Larry Sussman of Individuals United for Freedom, says McCaughey was chosen because "she's the quintessential authority on the subject."

McCaughey is a former Lt. Governor of New York State who railed against HMO abuses in the 1990s, including launching bans on drive-thru mastectomies and drive-thru deliveries that forced women out of the hospital too soon.

In 2004, she founded the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths (RID), a national educational campaign to stop hospital-acquired infections. Since then, RID has made infections a major public issue and won legislation in more than 25 states for public reporting on infection deaths. Now, McCaughey is on a crusade to safeguard America's healthcare.

McCaughey says, "The health bills coming out of Congress will force you to give up the insurance plan you like for a managed-care plan that limits your access to specialists. Seniors will bear the brunt through massive cuts to Medicare and suffer painful later years as a result. We must stop this from happening."
