“JDRF is pleased to partner with and The Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne for this fun event. We hope that in addition to having a great time at a great venue, it will increase awareness about diabetes and JDRF’s mission of finding a cure for the millions of Americans whose lives are impacted by this disease,” said Laura Maciag, Executive Director of the Charlotte Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The party itself is open to the public and will include a pig pickin’ supplied by columnist and Charlotte restaurateur, Zach Goodyear, and sweet tea provided by Newk’s Express Caf. There will also be the opportunity to enter into a raffle where attendees can win prizes donated by businesses throughout All proceeds will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Charlotte, North Carolina to help fund diabetes research.

“After all of the snow this winter, we wanted to have our second “Best Quest” help our community focus on warmer things and getting ready for one of our state’s favorite summer pastimes, relaxing at the beach. We chose to have the event in Charlotte this year because wanted to try and bring the beach to those not fortunate enough to live on the coast. By partnering with Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne, we will be able to create a beach environment in the Piedmont,” said Hillary Ryland,’s Editor-in-Chief. “As we learned from our barbecue “Best Quest,” earlier this year, North Carolinians are passionate about sharing the BEST our state has to offer. By being able to channel that passion toward helping a great cause like JDRF, our community members can directly enhance the lives of children across North Carolina.”

For those interested in learning more, press inquiries or to participate in the event, please feel free to contact Kevin Grennan, Vice President of Marketing, In addition those who are considering traveling to the event can click here and find special rates.

About The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
JDRF is a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.4 billion to diabetes research, including more than $100 million in FY2009. Please visit
