Best Drug Rehabilitation Examines Signs of Relapse in New Video Release
Date:6/13/2016

Those who are battling a drug or alcohol addiction, or who might have a close friend or family member working through a substance abuse treatment program, can find some helpful information in a new video released by Best Drug Rehabilitation, a holistic recovery center located in Manistee, MI. The video, available for viewing on the Best Drug Rehabilitation YouTube channel, focuses on identifying the signs of a possible relapse into addiction and positive ways of reacting to those signs.

“An effective treatment program at a professional recovery facility is not a cure for addiction, and should not be thought of as a cure,” says BDR founder Per Wickstrom. “Rehabilitation is just the beginning of a lifelong journey of recovery, where people can discover tools and coping skills used to stay clean and sober. Relapse happens, and it shouldn’t be seen as failure – we only fail when we stop trying. But, if we can understand and identify the signs that someone might be slipping into relapse, we might be able to help them to avoid it before they get to that point.”

What a Best Drug Rehabilitation Counselor Has to Say

Julie, a counselor at Best Drug Rehabilitation, discusses some of the different things that might suggest a possibility of relapse. “Normally, a relapse starts a few weeks before they pick up anything,” she explains. “They go off in seven directions at once trying to clean up everything that they’ve done, and they can’t. That’s just impossible to do, it’s overwhelming.”

Julie also points out how suspicions from those around them may push a person in recovery over the edge into relapse. “I frequently hear that,” she says. “You know, ‘They are accusing me of doing things that I’m not doing, so why don’t I just go do it?’”

Vanessa G., a patient at BDR, recalls an event that led her back into addiction, highlighting how painful situations can affect a person in recovery. “My grandmother died when I was 4 months sober,” she remembers. “I had to go home, and I just wasn’t ready at that time. I started lying about calling my sponsor, working my program. Basically my relapse started with a lie.”

Best Drug Rehabilitation’s commitment to the success of their patients does not end at graduation. They offer an extensive Aftercare Program that helps their patients make the transition into a healthy and substance-free lifestyle. Services include making sober living arrangements and finding local support groups, among others.
