Best Drug Rehabilitation CEO Per Wickstrom Speaks to Rob Rubick at Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event

(PRWEB) September 03, 2013

Per Wickstrom, the CEO of holistic treatment facilities including Best Drug Rehabilitation, recently sat down with former Detroit Lions tight end Rob Rubick at the Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event to discuss the problem of drug and alcohol abuse among the youth.

“A strong family structure is extremely important, and yet many kids don’t have that to depend on – and so they’re looking for other support systems that can be negative and destructive,” commented Mr. Rubick, who followed his successful NFL career by earning two Masters Degrees, and who currently teaches high school in Lapeer Michigan. “We need to engage parents and teach them about their roles and responsibilities. It’s funny, but you can’t get a driver’s license without a test, but there’s no test required to have a child. I think some parents simply don’t have the knowledge and resources they need, and as a result they can’t lay the right foundation for their kids. In the end, everyone suffers, and entire families are torn apart.”

Mr. Rubick also commented on the pressures that kids today are facing from the online world:
“As a high school teacher, I see how much pressure these kids are under, and how social bullying through Facebook can be overwhelming. I sometimes think that social bullying can be worse than physical bullying. We need to give kids alternatives that are positive and uplifting.”

Helping kids make the right choices is something that Per Wickstrom also believes is essential in the battle against drug and alcohol addiction among young people.

“We can’t keep building treatment facilities, and we can’t keep attempting to intervene years or decades after the problem emerges,” commented Per Wickstrom, who believes that alcohol and drug addiction rehab must empower clients to experience complete health that embraces body, mind and spirit. “We have to focus our efforts and resources on prevention, and that means we have to get into schools and educate the kids. We have to give them the tools, support and knowledge they need before they experiment with drugs and alcohol, and before they put themselves in vulnerable positions that lead to poor life choices.”
