Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes More Than 2,800 Ethicon Mesh Lawsuits Now Pending in New Jersey Litigation
Date:6/3/2013

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 03, 2013

The number of Ethicon mesh lawsuits involving the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary’s brand of Gynecare pelvic mesh implants continues to grow in a consolidated litigation established in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to a Case List posted on the Court’s website on May 28th, 2,831 surgical mesh lawsuits have now been filed in the litigation by women alleging mesh erosion, infection and other injuries stemming from Ethicon mesh devices. Bernstein Liebhard LLP has filed several lawsuits in this proceeding on behalf of women who claim the implants marketed by Ethicon were defectively designed, and that the company failed to warn consumers of their serious risks for injury. Firm partner, Jeffrey S. Grand, is serving as Co-Liaison Counsel for this litigation. (In re: Pelvic Mesh/Gynecare Litigation, No. 6341-10).*

“We continue to hear from women on a regular basis who have allegedly suffered injuries stemming from Ethicon mesh products. That said, we are not surprised that the number of claims pending in the consolidated litigation underway in New Jersey has now surpassed 2,800,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices.

Surgical Mesh Lawsuits
Vaginal mesh products have been the subject of mounting concern since October 2008, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted the public that it had received more than 1,000 adverse event reports associated with the implants over a period of three years. A little less than three years later, the FDA re-classified the frequency of complications to occur in women implanted with vaginal mesh as “not rare” after receiving an estimated 2,800 complaint reports since the 2008 safety communication.
