Benson, Bertoldo, Baker & Carter is Pleased to Announce the Winner of its First Annual College Scholarship Essay Contest

The Las Vegas personal injury law firm Benson, Bertoldo, Baker & Carter is pleased to announce that Crawford Gates, a senior at Coronado High School, is the winner of the firm’s first annual college scholarship essay contest. As the winner of the essay contest, Crawford received a $5,000 college scholarship.

The essay contest started on Dec. 1, 2012 and ran through April 30th, 2013. Participating senior high school students were asked to submit a three-page minimum essay on “The Role of the civil tort system.” The word “tort” means damage, injury, or a wrongful act done willfully, negligently, or in circumstances involving strict liability, for which a civil lawsuit can be brought.

Crawford first developed an interest in in law while serving on the board of a Forensics Program at his school. He will be attending Brigham Young University (BYU) in the fall, where he plans to major in Economics and study both forensics and law.

Crawford is an outstanding student who has already excelled in his academic career. He received a full ride academic scholarship to attend BYU. In his spare time, he loves to read and enjoys playing sports. He played on the Coronado High School soccer team for three years and is an Eagle Scout.

Crawford said after he found out about the essay contest from his counselor, he created a Facebook page for the contest where he received support from his family and friends.

Benson, Bertoldo, Baker & Carter donated the generous scholarship with the intention of guiding a high school student who has an interest in pursuing a career in the legal field.
