Become #OvarianSelfAware with Bright Pink in Honor of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Date:9/1/2017

During National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, national breast and ovarian health organization, Bright Pink, is teaching women to know and manage their ovarian cancer risk through a month long campaign empowering women to practice Ovarian Self-Awareness. Bright Pink defines Ovarian Self-Awareness as “a recognition of one’s personal ovarian health and cancer risk” and calls women to action through two key recommendations – know your family history of ovarian cancer, and know the ovarian cancer symptoms.

The lesser-known sister to breast cancer, ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecologic disease, often due to late-stage diagnosis. Two-thirds of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die as a result.

“Today, it is more imperative than ever before that women take an active role in their health management,” says Bright Pink CEO, Katie Thiede “This Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Bright Pink will teach women what it means to be Ovarian Self-Aware and how to put that awareness in action.”

Bright Pink’s resources enable women to take a personalized approach to ovarian health management, starting with an understanding of their family history. The organization additionally shares educational content to clarify ovarian cancer symptoms and teaches when and how to speak up regarding symptoms in hopes of enabling detection of ovarian cancer at earlier, non-life-threatening stages.
