Date:4/1/2009

TOKYO, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Bausch & Lomb Japan has named Mitsuo (Mike) Hirose as chairman, effective immediately. Mr. Hirose has served on the subsidiary's Board of Directors since January 2009.

Mr. Hirose brings exceptional executive experience to Bausch & Lomb Japan, complementing the company's existing leadership team. In addition, Mr. Hirose brings with him considerable depth in healthcare management. He has served as president and representative director for both Johnson & Johnson Japan Inc. and Johnson & Johnson Medical Company, as well as in other capacities for the Johnson & Johnson Group of Companies. He was responsible for introducing disposable contact lenses to the Japanese market, and was a committee member of Central Social Insurance Medical Council, Health, Labor, and Welfare Ministry until 2005.

Mr. Hirose graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, Keio University, and earned a degree from the Graduate School of Management, Boston College. He is a director for Nichirei Corporation, on advisory boards for Alfresa Holdings Corporation and Brother Industries, Ltd., and a trustee of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai).

"We look forward to working with Hirose-san, and believe that our customers and partners, as well as everyone at Bausch & Lomb Japan, will benefit from his insights and guidance," said Gerald M. Ostrov, chairman and chief executive officer, Bausch & Lomb.
