Baron & Budd Recognizes the Fifth Annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil
Date:11/20/2013

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) November 20, 2013

As part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, mesothelioma law firm Baron & Budd wants to recognize the Fifth Annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil. This nationwide event provides support and information, helps raise awareness and works to reverse the stigma commonly attached to lung cancer as the "smoking cancer."

Diane Legg, the co-founder of the New England chapter of the Lung Cancer Alliance, started the vigil in 2006. Legg, a lung cancer survivor, wanted to find a way for the community could support not only those who suffer directly from lung cancer, but also their family members and friends. The vigil has grown to include 37 states, as well as Puerto Rico.

Over the years, lung cancer has been stereotyped as the "smoking cancer," implying that the cancer is always caused by smoking and that patients "had it coming." However, according to new research released by The President's Cancer Panel in 2010, a growing number of lung cancer cases are occurring in nonsmokers and are, instead, linked to environmental toxins, such as asbestos. “We have proudly sponsored the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil in the past and we will always encourage participation at this event,” said Russell Budd, managing director of mesothelioma law firm Baron & Budd. “These vigils not only raise community awareness, they also help to battle the stigma associated with lung cancer.”

Baron & Budd has been protecting the rights of asbestos lung cancer patients for more than 35 years.
