Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc. Responds to FDA Tomato Recall
Date:6/10/2008

NEW YORK, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc., one of the largest importers and distributors of produce in the Northeastern United States, immediately released a statement in response to the tomato recall issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. A salmonella saintpaul outbreak was found to be linked to Red Plum, Red Roma and Red Round tomatoes. "We immediately responded to the recall, and have substituted all orders with Lucky tomatoes. Baldor will only provide our customers with tomatoes from the FDA approved states. Food safety is paramount at Baldor, and we have discontinued all sales not grown from the approved list," said Kevin Murphy, Baldor founder and CEO.

Approved by the FDA and USDA, Baldor is among the few facilities in the United States to be HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) accredited. This system is used at all stages of food production as an effective tool for protecting public health and food safety. Boasting the most extensive culinary quality assurance program available, Baldor prides itself on providing a clean environment that ensures paramount employee and product safety.

The FDA has determined the following states, territories and countries where tomatoes are grown and harvested have not been associated with the outbreak: Arkansas, California, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Hawaii, Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands and Puerto Rico. Baldor will only source products from this list until otherwise noted.
