Baden Elementary School holds VisionWalk to Fight Blindness

Baden Elementary Students to Walk in Support of Sixth Grader, Bjorn Brooks, who Suffers from a Vision-Robbing Condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa

Brandywine, MD (PRWEB) -- The students of Baden Elementary School will participate in a “mock” VisionWalk on Friday, May 28, 2010 to raise funds for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The event was organized by Baden sixth grader, Bjorn Brooks, who has a retinal degenerative disease known as retinitis pigmentosa, a vision-robbing condition that has left him legally blind. While he retains some tunnel vision, it is likely that Bjorn will lose all of his sight because there is currently no cure for his condition. He has organized the event to raise money for retinal research and help his fellow students better understand the disease.

The 200+ students will walk in solidarity wearing dark glasses identical to those that Bjorn is forced to wear every day. Platinum-selling R&B artist Ginuwine will be at walking alongside the students and State Senator Douglas J. J. Peters will be in attendance.

The Foundation Fighting Blindness raises money to fund critical research to find treatments and cures for retinal diseases like Bjorn’s that affect more than 10 million Americans. VisionWalk is the Foundation’s national fundraising program. Bjorn and his family are participating in the 3rd Annual Baltimore VisionWalk taking place on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Rash Field. All donations from the Baden Elementary walk will go to his team, “TEAM BJORN,” in support of the Baltimore VisionWalk.

Each class at Baden will compete to raise the most money at the “mock” walk. The class that raises the most funds will be treated to a catered lunch with special guest, Ginuwine. The winning class will also cut the ribbon at the start of the Baltimore VisionWalk on Saturday, June 5. Following are the details for the event at Baden Elementary School:
