BMI of Texas Hosts Successful 2009 Walk from Obesity
Date:3/13/2010

San Antonio walk led the nation in number of participants.

(PRWEB) March 13, 2010 -- The Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas (“BMI of Texas”) today announced the success of the ASMBS Foundation and Obesity Action Coalition’s (OAC) annual Walk from Obesity in San Antonio. According to the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Foundation, San Antonio’s 2009 Walk from Obesity led the nation in the number of walkers and was the #3 fundraising event nationally.

During the course of 2009 in more than 70 cities all across the United States, those affected by obesity, healthcare professionals and many more gathered to show their support for the fight against obesity. In San Antonio, local lead sponsor BMI of Texas headed up the November 8, 2009 event, which drew more than 300 participants.

“In just our first year of hosting the Walk from Obesity, we inspired hundreds of walkers to get out and walk away from obesity. The response from the community – the companies and organizations who donated as well as the walkers themselves – was incredible and we are looking forward to even bigger event next year,” said San Antonio bariatric surgeon Dr. Mickey Seger, who co-founded the Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas with San Antonio bariatric surgeon Dr. Terive Duperier.
