Heritage Woods of Freeport -- a BMA affordable assisted living community -- will celebrate National Ice Cream Month with an ice cream social from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 28.
The community, 1500 S. Forest Road in Freeport, Illinois, serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.
“We invite the community to join us for a sweet summer treat and take a tour of our new community,” said Freeport Administrator Kelly Hillan. The community opened its doors to residents and their families in June.

The Heritage Woods community was developed by BMA Management, Ltd., in partnership with the Stephenson County Nursing Center Foundation. BMA, which is the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois, will serve as the management company.
“We provide older adults with a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling alone at home,” says Hillan. “Residents will benefit from living in a residential apartment-home setting and receiving personal assistance and help with medications.”
Private studio and one-bedroom apartments are available. Each apartment features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning, and an emergency alert system.
Certified nursing assistants, working under the direction of a licensed nurse, are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three meals per day, housekeeping and laundry are be among the included services.
