Premier Parenting Channel Reaches 6.5 Million Moms Surpassing most Cable Television Networks Moms’ Online Video Consumption on the Rise Making Naptime the new Primetime

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 8, 2010 -- BABYCENTER®, the leading global resource for new and expectant parents, announced today the launch of two new original baby video series, “Inside Pregnancy” and “Live Birth” that allow viewers to experience the awe-inspiring journey of childbirth. The 3D animated birth video collection, “Inside Pregnancy” is BABYCENTER’s first online original video series, observing the growth and development of a fetus using 3D animation. BABYCENTER’s original series, “Live Birth” is a documentary style series following the lives of six couples as they evaluate options and choose their birth plans. Both new collections are part of BABYCENTER’s extensive video library featuring original content on pregnancy, birth and parenting as well as relevant branded content from its advertising clients.

BABYCENTER is the premier online parenting channel, featuring world-class, original content and digital distribution that reaches a targeted audience average of 6.5 million moms in a seven day period, which is an average of approximately 1.8 million more moms than most cable television networks. In addition to its own original content, BABYCENTER is a prime distribution channel for branded videos providing a platform for companies to showcase their own relevant content through the BABYCENTER channel.

According to BABYCENTER’s 21st Century Mom™ Report, 73 percent of first-time pregnant women have watched an online video in the past month and one in five say their interest in online video has increased because they have less time. As a result, moms are more focused on video that will teach them something they need to know. The research found that after becoming a mom, women use the Web 32 percent more and watch TV 42 percent less. Media consumption changes from long sessions to “media snacking” throughout the day, often spiking when children are asleep, making naptime the new prime time.

3D Animated Birth Video Collection: Inside Pregnancy

BABYCENTER’s seven part series entitled “Inside Pregnancy,” takes a revealing, 3D look into the development of a baby from conception to birth inside a virtual womb. Segments include conception, first, second and third trimester as well as a groundbreaking segment called “Girl or Boy?” that demonstrates how girls and boys develop from the same fetal structures.

“The BABYCENTER original video series takes an extraordinary look at the journey of pregnancy and delivery through the most realistic animated interpretations available online,” said Linda Murray, Editor in Chief of BABYCENTER. “BABYCENTER developed this exclusive, cutting-edge series to provide our audience with an innovative and educational tool.”

BABYCENTER went to great lengths to ensure the medical accuracy of the videos by working with fetal development expert and BABYCENTER medical advisory board member, Natan Haratz-Rubinstein, M.D., medical director of the Advanced Women's Imaging and Prenatal Testing Center at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

“I was delighted to have worked with an outstanding, knowledgeable and open-minded team of artists and medical illustrators who created the 3D animations on fetal development,” said Dr. Natan Haratz-Rubinstein, M.D. “These truly give an accurate depiction of what happens in the womb and provide the viewer a glimpse into the amazing journey of the fetus.”

Original Video Content Series: Live Birth

In the second video series “Live Birth,” BABYCENTER explores birthing options including natural birth, water birth, epidural birth, induction birth, twin birth, and C-section delivery. Six BABYCENTER Moms generously allowed BABYCENTER to capture their births on film with no restrictions in an effort to help educate other women about what to expect during labor and delivery. BABYCENTER received unprecedented access to film at a level IV NICU in the leading children’s hospital in America, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, as well as access to other notable hospitals such as Abington Memorial Hospital, Mainline Health System, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, South Jersey Hospital Elmer, and the Birth Center of Pennsylvania.

BABYCENTER’s diverse video library caters to the info-craving, on-the-go mom by providing informational videos on pregnancy, birth and parenting topics of keen interest to new moms. Some highlights include: The Preemies series, The C-Section recovery series, and videos showing moms what happens to their baby in the hours after giving birth. Also featured in the series are practical “how-to’s” on installing car seats, teaching your baby to sleep, giving your baby a bath, helping your baby develop skills like sitting, crawling and walking, as well as many others. Parents can view BABYCENTER’s video content at BABYCENTER.com as well as BABYCENTER’s new YouTube Channel found at http://www.youtube.com/Babycenter.

The BABYCENTER 3D animated videos were developed and produced in conjunction with Ikana Media and 3D art Animation Studio.
