B. Braun Selects 1WorldSync Unique Device Identification and Product Information Solution
Date:7/29/2014

Lawrenceville, NJ (PRWEB) July 29, 2014

1WorldSync announces B. Braun Melsungen AG, one of the world’s leading healthcare suppliers will utilize the Global Data Synchronization Network™ (GDSN®) standard and leverage 1WorldSync’s product information network to share product information with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other trading partners across their global supply chain. Holger Clobes, Head of Global eCommerce & Auto ID at B. Braun: "B. Braun serves customers in 61 countries, among others with items for anesthesia, intensive medicine, cardiology, extracorporeal blood treatment and surgery. In order to provide our customers with reliable and relevant product information in accordance with the Unique Device Identification (UDI) regulations, we began in June 2014 to assess the 1WorldSync Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN®) certified data pool."

The engagement with 1WorldSync allows B. Braun to efficiently distribute product information over a single channel, to meet the increasing demands from trading partners and to support the UDI regulation passed by the FDA: Holger Clobes stated, "With the 1WorldSync GDSN-certified data pool we can provide our customers, such as hospitals and medical buying groups comprehensive, reliable and trusted product information over a single channel at any time."

In implementing 1WorldSync's healthcare solution, B. Braun is now well prepared for the deadline set by the FDA to meet UDI regulation requirements. Volker Zeinar, Global Coordinator Auto-ID Affairs: "Every medical device registered in the U.S. must have its own identification number, called the Unique Device Identifier. In addition, preset medical device descriptive product information is required to be submitted into the FDA UDI database (GUDID) in an electronic predetermined format by the FDA (HL7 SPL). By using the GDSN-based solutions offered by 1WorldSync, we are able to reduce our costs for necessary UDI accommodation in our IT systems and fulfill the regulatory requirements in the aggressive timeline set by the FDA of September 24, 2014."

The UDI regulation is not the only reason for healthcare companies to use the 1WorldSync GDSN-certified data pool solution. Klaus Schmid, Executive Vice President & Managing Director in Europe of 1WorldSync: "Globally, more countries with similar regulations are impacting medical manufacturers. The expanding omni-channel demands are reliant on consistent product information—in both the physical world and digital such as on websites and in mobile applications."
